Selena
She was an artist, performer, creator and set new boundaries in the music world. She was both contemporary and traditional a Mexican-American star who bound together both worlds in a singular way--and brought excellent Tejano music to a mainstream crowd. In the same way that there are many who mourn a superstar who died from their prime, the death of her was premature and destroyed a growing career. The fans have worked hard through the years to keep her legacy alive. The tragic death of Selena by a shooter triggered an outpouring of emotion in Latino communities that is comparable the way people reacted following the death of Elvis Presley and John Lennon's. The singer was extremely popular within Latino communities across North America her music crossed lines of cultural difference to affect the lives of young as well as old. Selena was a hot, flamboyant performer on stage that was frequently referred to by the Latina Madonna. On stage, Selena was an excellent role model since she was active in anti-drug and AIDS campaigns.
